PC vs. PE!
Kings of the Gym was on at Circa Theatre from January 19 to February 16, 2013, and returned for a repeat season in 2014 - 18 January to 15 February.
From the team who brought you the smash hit The Motor Camp, playright Dave Amstrong and director Danny Mulheron again combine talents to present a delightfully romantic and wickedly entertaining comedy set in a school gym.
Politically correct principal Viv Cleaver is transforming low-decile Hautapu High School. The only thorn in her side is the Phys-ed department. Laurie Connor spends his days in the gym watching sport on TV and gambling with his talented but unambitious sidekick Pat Kennedy. But then student-teacher Annie Tupua arrives. Will this star netballer be the game-changer that Viv needs?
Kings of the Gym stars the brilliant Ginette McDonald (Rage, My Brilliant Divorce and of course forever known as Lyn of Tawa), Paul McLaughlin (The Truth Game), Richard Dey (All My Sons, Cinderella) and Acushla-Tara Sutton (The Truth Game).
A comedy in two halves, Kings of the Gym looks at the really important things in life: competition, compassion, Creationism ... and PE teaching.
